Check out which will show you which agencies and offices are in your area. I used the Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Northeastern Ohio and am down to my last four months in a four year program. My God did they help me. I was paying over $800 a month on thirteen credit cards and going nowhere at 10-25% interest. The appointment was free and showed me how to pay less per month and be debt free in four years. That’s my situation. You may be out of the plan in 24 or 60 months. The first thing you will do is cut up your credit cards. Your accounts will be cancelled. How can you bail out of debt if you continue to add to it? It’s a bit of a ding to your credit report but so are late payments. Some of my cards reduced to 6% interest. That saved me thousands of dollars over the years. People will complain about the $20 or whatever “donation” but if you can save me $300 a month in payments and fees, I will gladly pay you $20 a month. You make ONE payment instead of however many you make now. I would not blink in referring people to the service… and I have. Again the legitimate services are registered with. Take action.
