Chris W asked:

As of last semester I was in enrolled in The University of Illinois’ college of ACES majoring in consumer economics and finance. I applied for an intercollegiate transfer and was admitted to the business school in finance. I also applied to Northwestern in economics and was accepted there as well.

If I want to work in finance, in particular, investment banking (or whatever else pays the most), should I stay at Illinois or head over to Northwestern?

Things to consider:

Illinois GPA – 3.71 (and rising)
If I go to Northwestern and get, say, a 3.0, is that worse than a 3.8 at Illinois?

Graduation – I would have to go to school half a year longer at Northwestern (graduate on time vs. a semester early at Illinois).

Cost- Northwestern is way more expensive.

Economics- I want to work in finance, not economics. I enjoy finance classes much more than econ classes.

MBA factor- Would graduating from Northwestern greatly boost my chances of getting into a top 10 MBA school?

Other info: Northwestern ranked 12th among all universities nationally – Illinois’ finance dep. ranked 10th nationally.

Jeff
